Service Manager, Vehicle Testing Equipment

Service Manager, Vehicle Testing Capital Equipment, up to £35,000 + vehicle, based from HQ in Buckingham. This is a great career opportunity for a highly talented service manager to join a world renowned specialist provider of capital equipment into the vehicle testing industry.

Celebrating their 52nd year of business this specialist manufacturer of vehicle testing systems have operated in the UK since 1990. Managing the nationwide network of service engineers this is a people management role which requires a proven leader of service engineers with a strong mechanical engineering background. The role is based from Buckingham, Buckinghamshire but will require frequent travel across the UK to meet and mentor your team of Service Engineers. The testing systems require an engineer with solid Electro/mechanical knowledge. As the systems capture data throughout the testing process the role requires an engineer that is comfortable with
IT systems, diagnostic software and using their computer skills.

Your major responsibility is to oversee the team that is responsible for installations, commissioning, troubleshooting and repairing and also supporting the field sales team from a technical 'pre-sales' capacity. You will take full responsibility for the service team including their mentoring, training, development and recruitment. Clients include the MoD, VOSA (MOT testing centres) and hundreds of Fleet owners like Bus operators, Haulage and Transport Companies, Large Dealer Workshops, Local Authorities, etc. The company enjoys very low staff turnover due to their team ethic and investment into training and development.

Leading from the front you will be a proven Service Manager that can demonstrate loyalty and stability throughout your CV. Previous industry experience within vehicle testing systems is not required however experience of working within the truck, fleet, bus and coach or vehicle testing sectors will be of huge benefit.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced field service manager backed by Mechanical or mechanical electrical or mechanical electronic qualifications. You will enjoy customer interaction and have the communication skills to help troubleshoot equipment issues with customers via the telephone and emails and be able to support the sales team in technical presentations.

You will have an ability to read and work with schematics and experience of power control in addition to mechanical knowledge will be useful. You will have solid working knowledge of PC and Windows based software and some experience of working with testing and diagnostics software would be a distinct advantage.

To apply you will be self motivated and self managing and have a solid loyal work history together with a hard working and customer service oriented ethic.

As this is a customer facing role you must be well presented with good communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with both customers and engineers. You will be able to follow quality systems and processes and be used to following procedures. You will have an ability to develop technical manuals, written procedures & documentation and be committed to continuous business improvement.

In addition you must have a full driving license. As training will take place across Europe you will also possess a valid passport.

As the team and market share in the UK is growing the position has enormous potential for career development and as such requires an ambitious engineering professional looking for a ten to fifteen year plus career move. As the role is based from the HQ in Buckingham you are expected to live within a 20 mile radius, i.e. Northampton, Milton Keynes, Brackley, Bicester, Leighton Buzzard, Winslow, Thame or Banbury. The role is UK based and will require frequent nationwide travel and occasional overnight stays.

Interviews are planned throughout September and this is a robust recruitment selection process that will include psychometric testing, personality questionnaire and 360 degree third party referencing.
